Woman Sentenced To Probation For Death Of Family’s Pets

On August 25, Tiffany Fajardo, age 20, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation for Cruelty to Animals. The defendant was paid to care for a family’s six pets, but did not feed or care for the animals causing two dogs to die and the other animals to suffer.

“This sentencing acknowledges the need to provide justice to the victims and holds the defendant accountable for causing needless loss,” said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.

Starting on October 8, 2016 Fajardo was hired by the victims to care for their six family pets including four older dogs for a week while they were out of town. The family left written detailed instructions for the care of each animal. On the last day Fajardo contacted the family to let them know two of the dogs had died and said she did not know the cause. She claimed she checked on all the animals just the day before and cared for them as instructed.

When the family returned home they noticed that none of the animal’s food had been given to them and the surviving dogs needed medical attention. A veterinary examination of the deceased dogs showed the dogs had died days before Fajardo notified the owners.
