Douglas CBP Officers Stop SUV Loaded With Marijuana

Officers discovered packages of marijuana within the tires of smuggling vehicle

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Raul Hector Castro Port in Douglas, Arizona, detained a Douglas resident Thursday afternoon after finding almost 300 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

Officers referred a 25-year-old Douglas man for a secondary inspection of the Mazda Tribute he was driving. During the inspection, a CBP narcotics-detection canine’s alert led to the discovery of marijuana hidden throughout the vehicle’s interior and exterior.

Officers seized the drugs, worth more than $148,000, and vehicle. After arresting the subject for drug smuggling, he was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
