Demolition Of Sierra Vista House Consumed By Fire Begins

Prince Drive and a portion of Monarch Drive will be closed for about six hours on Tuesday, as the City begins the demolition of a house that was destroyed in a fire on July 10.

The project will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and is expected to continue through Monday, Sept. 11. Prince Drive and half of Monarch Drive will be closed in the area of the property, located at 247 Prince Drive, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday to ensure safety during the initial phase of the project, which includes the removal of two tall trees. Neighbors in the area are being notified today, as this may limit access to some properties during that period.

For the duration of the project, heavy machinery and large trucks with trailers will be driving in and out of the neighborhood. Residents in the area are urged to drive with caution and ensure their children do not play near the workers or vehicles.

“The fire left this property in an unsafe state. To protect residents in the area, we want to ensure it gets cleaned up quickly and any hazards are removed,” Community Development Director Matt McLachlan says.

The hazardous state of the property limited efforts to discover its cause. Sierra Vista Fire Marshal Paul Cimino says its cause remains undetermined.
