Motorcycle Rider Injured After Barbed Wire Fence Catches Neck

On September 5, 2017, just after 4:30 PM, deputies were dispatched to a motorcycle collison on Route 66 west of Seligman. A 42-year-old man from Vail, Arizona, was traveling east on Route 66 in heavy rain when the 3 wheeled motorcycle started to hydroplane, lose traction, and leave the roadway while out of his control.

The motorcycle, a 2007 Suzuki ZR8 which is designed with a shelled body, continued across a field and through a barbed wire fence. As the rider went through the fence, a barbed wire strand caught him around the neck resulting in a large laceration. He was able to call 911 for help and also contact his brother who was riding well ahead and did not witness the incident.

Speed may be a causal factor considering the road conditions at the time.

A DPS Ranger Helicopter crew stabilized the injured man and flew him to Flagstaff Medical Center. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
