Agents Seize Meth at I-19 Immigration Checkpoint

Agents discovered meth beneath the dashboard of a smuggling vehicle

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents from the Nogales Station arrested two U.S. citizens, both from Tucson, at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint after finding almost 32 pounds of methamphetamine in their vehicle on Friday afternoon.

Agents referred the driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu for further inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect coming from the vehicle. As a result, agents found 25 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the dash, under the center console and in the trunk.

Agents arrested the driver, a 19-year-old male, and his 18-year-old female passenger for narcotics smuggling. Both subjects, along with the drugs, worth more than $94,000, and vehicle were turned over the Drug Enforcement Administration for processing.
