Nogales Highway Motorcycle Collision Fatal

On October 1, 2017, around 7:11 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury collision involving a motorcycle and a truck on E. Valencia Rd. and S. Nogales Hwy. Upon arrival, they located an adult male and an adult female in the roadway with obvious signs of injury.

They were both transported to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. Sadly, the female succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. She has been identified as 59-year-old Juanita Garcia. Her next of kin has been notified. The driver of the truck and a passenger were not injured and remained on scene.

Detectives were able to determine an adult male motorcycle rider was eastbound on Valencia Rd. and Ms. Garcia was his passenger. They were riding a 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle and neither was wearing a helmet. As they traversed the green light at S. Nogales Hwy, the driver of a red 2007 Nissan Frontier made a left turn from Valencia Rd. heading southbound on Nogales Hwy and struck both of them on the motorcycle.

Neither speed nor drug or alcohol impairment appear to be factors in this collision.
