Updated-Man Killed In One Car Tucson Collision, Alcohol A Factor

On October 15, 2017, shortly before 5:15 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in 2000 block of W. Speedway Blvd. Officers located an adult male, who was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver from this fatal collision has been identified as 18-year-old Ernesto Contreras.  His next of kin has been notified.

Officers were told that approximately three to four others associated with the vehicle fled prior to police arrival. The occupants were picked up by another vehicle and left the scene.

Detectives were able to determine that a white 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix was eastbound on Speedway Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the desert area on the south side of Speedway Blvd. The vehicle struck several trees and brush before rolling over and landing on the roof.

One adult male and one adult female have since been located and sustained minor injuries. Two females remain outstanding with unknown injuries. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this collision.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME.
