Former SBE Chair Greg Miller Dies

The controversial former president of the Arizona State Board of Education, Greg Miller, passed away on Tuesday. Miller died of natural causes.

Miller, the gruff owner of the Challenge Charter School in Glendale was pressured to resign from the Arizona State Board of Education due to his squabble with Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas.

Miller and his wife Pam founded the Challenge Charter School in 1996. The school earned attention last year when a video was published by the Arizona Daily Independent, in which parents alleged that Miller’s daughter Wendy, and wife turned away what they believed to be a special needs student.

Miller was appointed by Governor Jan Brewer to serve on the Arizona State Board of Education in 2010 and reappointed in 2014. He served multiple terms as Vice President and President.

A service will be held on November 4, 2017 at 3:30pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.
