Border Patrol Agents Stop Armed Heroin Smuggler

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents from the Three Points Substation found more than 28 grams of heroin and a loaded handgun during a secondary vehicle inspection Tuesday afternoon at the immigration checkpoint on State Route 86 and arrested the Tucson woman.

When a woman drove up to the checkpoint in a Chevrolet Malibu, a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect. The driver was then directed to a secondary inspection area where agents discovered $17,000 worth of drugs, and a loaded .22-caliber handgun.

Agents arrested the woman, identified as a 37-year-old Tucson resident, and contacted the Arizona Department of Public Safety who took custody of the woman, heroin, vehicle and weapon.
