Coolidge Woman Killed While Attempting To Cross Highway

A Coolidge, Arizona woman who was attempting to walk across State Route 92 near Snyder Boulevard was killed after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

Lourdes Flores, 46, and a male companion were attempting to cross an unmarked and dimly lit section of the highway just south of Snyder Boulevard at about 8:30 p.m. Both individuals were struck by a single car traveling northbound. Witnesses who saw the incident remained at the scene, and some provided lifesaving measures to Flores. Police and EMS personnel arrived on the scene and also performed lifesaving measures. Flores was pronounced deceased on the scene. Her companion sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene to a Tucson-area trauma center.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pair remained on scene. The preliminary findings by a Sierra Vista Police Department Accident Reconstruction investigator do not indicate a criminal component to the incident, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The investigation is continuing.

Traffic on southbound SR 92 was closed until about 11:00 p.m., as was northbound traffic at Avenida Cochise, while investigators worked the scene.

Flores was taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Pima County, where an autopsy will be performed.
