Cochise County Investigates Inmate Death In Bisbee Jail

On Thursday November 16, 2017 at approximately 9:44 a.m., an inmate at the Cochise County Jail in Bisbee, 35 year old Derrick Joe Worcester, became unconscious and unresponsive while in his cell.

Worcester was booked into the Cochise County Jail on Tuesday November 14, 2017 at 10:14 p.m., by the Tombstone Marshals Office on charges of motor vehicle theft, possession of a narcotic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The inmate was assessed by Jail Medical personnel on Thursday morning after experiencing nausea the previous night, and was last checked eighteen minutes prior to becoming unresponsive at 9:44 a.m.

Medical personnel and detention staff tended to Mr. Worcester before he was transported to the Copper Queen Hospital by ambulance for further care. Mr. Worcester was pronounced deceased at 11:15 a.m.

The Pima County Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy, right now the cause of death and toxicology reports are pending.

The investigation is being continued by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
