Syms Seeks AG Opinion On City of Phoenix’s Disproportionate Sewer Fees

Representative Maria Syms asked Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich to determine if the City of Phoenix is violating state law by charging disproportionate sewer fees to Paradise Valley customers, this week

Under state law, “[r]ates and charges demanded or received by municipalities for water and wastewater services shall be just and reasonable.”

“Charging one group of customers excessively more than another group for similar services isn’t ‘just and reasonable,’” said Representative Syms. “It is unfortunate that, despite repeated customer requests, the City of Phoenix has not been able to provide a just and fair reason for overcharging Paradise Valley customers by more than five times the going rate for sewer services.”
