Pregnant Tucson Woman Shot, Killed, Baby Born

On December 23, 2017, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of an unconscious pregnant female, 19-year-old Jasmine Vega, in a residence located within the 1500 block of West Calle Guadalajara. Upon arrival, officers observed the victim with obvious gunshot trauma.

Tucson Fire Department personnel rendered aid and transported her to a local-area hospital. Shortly after arrival, Ms. Vega was pronounced deceased. Ms. Vega was approximately six months pregnant. Hospital staff were able to successfully deliver her unborn child, who is currently being treated at the hospital.

Detectives were able to determine that Ms. Vega, along with several other people, were asleep inside the residence at the time of the incident. Others were awoken to Ms. Vega screaming and she later became unresponsive. They called 911 and when officers arrived on-scene, they observed several projectile holes in the walls of the residence. Additional evidence indicated that multiple shots were fired towards the residence from the exterior.

Detectives are investigating whether the gunfire targeted specific individuals inside the residence. The other occupants were not injured in the incident.

At this time, there are no suspects in custody. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
