Bisbee Woman Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Sierra Vista Parking Lot

A Bisbee woman, 71-year-old Susan Dunbar, died after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Fry’s Food and Drug Store, located at 4351 E. Highway 90 in Sierra Vista, this afternoon.

Sierra Vista Police Department officers responded to 911 calls reporting the vehicle versus pedestrian collision at about 1:35 p.m. When they arrived on scene, officers found Ms. Dunbar on the ground being attended to by off-duty emergency room nurses.

The initial investigation indicates that Ms. Dunbar was pushing a shopping cart across the parking lot when a pickup truck turning left into a parking row struck her, knocking her down, and running her over. There were no initial signs of driver impairment due to drugs or alcohol. The driver of the vehicle, 38-year-old Hereford resident David Gomez, remained on scene and attempted to render aid.

Ms. Dunbar was transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

No citations have been issued at this time and the investigation into the collision by an SVPD accident reconstruction specialist is ongoing.
