After months of teasing, Congresswoman Martha McSally (R-D2) finally announced yesterday at campaign events in Tucson, Phoenix, and Prescott that she will in fact be running for the US Senate, joining a Republican primary that already includes former Arizona state senator Kelli Ward and former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

In early November of last year, after Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) announced he wasn’t seeking re-election, Congresswoman Martha McSally told her Capitol Hill colleagues in a leaked conversation that she was going to run for the Senate in Arizona. Since then, her sudden close alignment with President Trump coupled with the announcement of her friend, Lea Marquez Peterson, for her own congressional seat began to solidify the rumors that she was going to be announcing, leaving the question not if but when….
