Mexican Citizen Assaults Federal Agent, Gets Prison

On Feruary 22, 2018, Leopoldo Rubio-Quinonez, of Sinaloa, Mexico, was sentenced to 78 months in prison. Rubio-Quinonez had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer and reentry of a removed alien.

On December 24, 2016, Rubio-Quininez assaulted a United States Border Patrol Agent who was arresting him for an immigration violation. In the process, Rubio-Quinonez bit the agent’s thumb causing a severe injury. Rubio-Quininez also attempted to grab the agent’s firearm. During the assault, Rubio-Quinonez told the agent that he was going to kill him.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the United States Border Patrol.
