Tucson Pedestrain Killed, Car Crashes Into McDonalds

The Tucson Police Department is investigating the death of pedestrian, 54-year-old Barbara Angiolini, that occurred on Tucson’s Northeast Side.

On March 3, 2018, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to the intersection of East Tanque Verde Road and East Grant Road for a report of a serious injury collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers and fire fighters located an SUV that had crashed into the McDonald’s located at 6651 East Tanque Verde Road. Ms. Angiolini was located on the ground near the vehicle. Tucson Fire attempted to treat Ms. Angiolini, however, she was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and passenger of the vehicle involved were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Three customers inside of the restaurant received minor injuries from flying debris, but were not transported.

Detectives were able to determine that the driver of a gold 2005 Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound on North Kolb Road, approaching East Tanque Verde Road. Just before entering the intersection, the driver lost control of the vehicle and hopped over the left turn median and into the southbound lanes of travel. The vehicle continued through the intersection and drove over the sidewalk on the northwest corner of Grant and Tanque Verde, where it struck Ms. Angiolini. The vehicle then crashed through a wrought iron fence, hitting the McDonald’s Restaurant and a vehicle in the drive-through.

It was determined that the driver was not under the influence at the time of the collision, but speed appears to be a contributing factor. No citations or charges have been issued at this time.
