Sahuarita Schools Placed On Lockdown, Student Mentioned Gun

Multiple schools in Sahuarita Unified School District were placed on lockdown at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. It was reported that a student may have had a weapon on or near the Sahuarita High School campus.

Police were notified by Sahuarita High School staff that a student was overheard asking about the legality of bringing a firearm to school. The conversation was reported by a student to the school’s administration. Administrators identified and contacted the student thought to have made the comments regarding legalities surrounding bringing a firearm to school.

School administrators advised the student that they wished to search the student’s vehicle which was parked on campus. The student then fled in his vehicle leaving the school campus. Administrators immediately notified the police department, who after receiving a briefing, initiated a district-wide a lockdown as a precaution. Several police officers responded to the school and other schools and conducted a search of the campuses.

No threats were located. The Sahuarita Police Department lifted the lockdown and normal school operations were resumed at approximately 1:40 p.m.
