Abandoned Illegal Campfire Started Tinder Fire

Investigators determined an illegal campfire left unattended sparked the Tinder Fire. Fire restrictions were in place the day the fire began.

The Tinder Fire has grown to an estimated 11,420 acres and is zero percent contained.

The Tinder fire started April 27, about 1.5 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir on the Coconino National Forest.

Increased cloud cover on Monday shaded fuels and helped limit fire spread.

Firefighters continued to provide structure protection and began mop up in the communities to help ensure all heat in the area is extinguished. Crews also conducted burnout operations to help limit the fire’s spread to the south. Four heavy helicopters dropped water throughout the day to support firefighters on the ground.
