Scottsdale voters will consider a sales tax increase this November to fund transportation improvements under a plan adopted by the City Council May 1, 2018.
The ballot proposal would increase the city’s sales tax rate by one-tenth of 1 percent for a period of 10 years. The rate increase, which amounts to an additional ten cents for every $100 retail purchase in Scottsdale, is expected to raise an additional $10 million a year for transportation projects and operations and related costs.
At its May 1 and previous meetings, the City Council discussed the need for Scottsdale’s transportation project funding especially those for which 70 percent matching dollars are available through the regional transportation sales tax.
The Nov. 6 Special Election ballot will also include candidates hoping to fill three seats on the City Council. The field is still being set for that election.
