Mother Arrested For 2017 Suspicious Death Of Child

As TPD detectives continued their investigation into the death of 7-month-old Victor Self, they have been able to determine that Victor had several skull fractures and a brain bleed when he was found  unresponsive just after 5:00 p.m. December 3, 2016. Victor’s mother, 24-year-old Kimberly Self, was in the home with several other adults when first responders were dispatched to the call.

Fire personnel immediately transported the child to Banner University Medical Center where he was sadly pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

As previously reported, the initial investigation revealed that the child had significant head injuries that appeared to be non-accidental in nature. Family members and friends were in the home when the child was found unresponsive.

It was obvious that Victor was under weight and malnourished at the time of his death.

Kimberly’s other child (almost 3-years-old at the time) was removed from the home during the initial investigation. That child has now been diagnosed with several medical issues to include; developmental delays, social delays, cognitive delays, language delays and emotional delays directly related to neglect and abuse while in Kimberly’s care.

After reviewing medical records on both children and conducting follow-up interviews with Kimberly Self, detectives arrested and booked Kimberly into the Pima County Jail Thursday evening (May 17, 2018) on two felony charges of child abuse.

Detectives are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
