A bomb threat made this morning resulted in the evacuation of Buena High School and a thorough search of the facility, which found no evidence of an explosive device.
A male caller reported that there was a bomb on the second floor at Buena High School at about 8:24 a.m. today. Sierra Vista Police Department officers responded immediately and worked with Sierra Vista Unified School District staff to quickly facilitate the evacuation of all students and staff at the school. The students and staff were transported to the Rothery Educational Service Center for reunification.
The Sierra Vista Police Department — with the assistance of the Fort Huachuca Military Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives — searched the school with specialty personnel. No explosive device was located. The high school was declared safe and turned over to school district staff at about 11:54 a.m.
The Sierra Vista Unified School District will resume a regular schedule on Thursday, which includes hosting the Buena High School graduation ceremony at 7 p.m.
