On Tuesday, May 29, the Tangerine Road project contractor will begin final paving operations along Tangerine, from east of the Thornydale Road intersection, to just west of La Cañada Drive. Work hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday. The paving operation is scheduled to be complete by Friday, June 15, 2018. Motorists should expect substantial delays during the following project dates/times and should seek alternate routes.
The following schedule of work, and related closures/restrictions, is subject to change, pending any mechanical or weather-related issues.
Tuesday, May 29 through Thursday, May 31 | 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day
The contractor will pave the outside lanes of eastbound and westbound Tangerine Road, from east of Thornydale Road, to just west of the La Cañada Drive intersection. The following traffic restriction will be in place during this phase of the paving operation:
- The paving operation will move west to east through the project. Northbound and southbound through-traffic at the La Cholla Boulevard intersection will not be permitted while paving equipment moves through the area. Depending on the location of the paving equipment, motorists will either be detoured, or be required to make a right turn only at the intersection.
- Median turn movements will be intermittently restricted as the paving operation moves through the area.
- Side street access will be intermittently closed while the paving equipment moves through the area and pavement is allowed to cool. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained. (Motorists should use Thornydale Road to enter and exit from businesses in the Fry’s shopping center)
- When paving of the outside travel lanes along Tangerine Road is complete, traffic will be switched to the newly paved east and westbound lanes and the contractor will complete paving the inside travel lanes.
Friday, June 1 and Monday June 4 | 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day
The contractor will pave the inside eastbound and westbound lanes of Tangerine Road, from east of Thornydale Road to just west of La Cañada Drive. The following traffic restrictions will be in place during this phase of the paving operation:
- Northbound and southbound through-traffic at the La Cholla Boulevard intersection will not be permitted while paving equipment moves through the area. Depending on the location of the paving equipment, motorists will either be detoured, or be required to make a right turn only at the intersection.
- Median turn movements will be intermittently restricted as the paving operation moves through the area.
- Side street access onto Tangerine Road will be intermittently restricted to right-turns only.
Tuesday, June 5 through Thursday, June 7 | 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day
The contractor will pave all median turn lanes along Tangerine Road, from east of Thornydale Road to just west of La Cañada Drive.
- There will be intermittent turn restrictions as the paving operation moves through the area.
Friday, June 8 | 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The contractor will complete the final lift of pavement for the left- and right-turn lanes at the Tangerine Road and La Cholla Boulevard intersection. The contractor will pave the center of the intersection along with Tangerine Road left-turn lanes. Motorists will be redirected around the work area, and officers will be on site to direct traffic. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained.
- Left turns will not be permitted from east or westbound Tangerine Road.
- Northbound and southbound through-traffic will not be permitted.
- Northbound La Cholla Boulevard will be directed right (eastbound) onto Tangerine Road.
- Southbound La Cholla Boulevard will be directed right (westbound) onto Tangerine Road.
Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 | 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day
The contractor will place the final lift of pavement along northbound and southbound La Cholla Boulevard, up to the Tangerine Road intersection. Because of the nature of this paving operation, sections of the intersection will have temporary movement restrictions to vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained.
- On Monday, June 11, traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes (east side of the roadway) while the contractor paves the southbound lanes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. All turn movements will be permitted. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic.
- On Tuesday, June 12, traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes (west side of the roadway) while the contractor paves the northbound lanes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. All turn movements will be permitted. Flaggers will be on sight to direct traffic.
