No Primary In Scottsdale Elections

Arizona is one of a number of states that have said they will not provide some, or all, of the data requested by a Presidential Advisory Commission on Electoral Integrity that is investigating possible voter fraud, prompting President Donald Trump to ask at the panel’s first meeting what those states have to hids. There will not be an Aug. 28 primary election in Scottsdale. Only six candidates filed to run for three City Council seats by the May 30 deadline, making a Scottsdale primary election unnecessary.

Scottsdale voters will elect three City Council members at the Tuesday, Nov. 6 General Election. The Scottsdale City Council has also called a Special Election Nov. 6 so voters can consider a temporary tax to fund transportation improvements.

The candidates

Incumbents Kathy Littlefield, Linda Milhaven and David N. Smith and residents Bill Crawford, Alyssa Robis and Solange Whitehead will run for three seats on the City Council. The three candidates with the most votes will be elected to a four-year term.

A temporary transportation tax

In addition to the City Council election, Scottsdale voters will decide a proposed temporary tax to fund transportation improvements at the Nov. 6 election.

The ballot proposal would increase the city’s transaction privilege and use tax rates by one-tenth of 1 percent (0.10%) for a period of 10 years to provide funds for transportation projects, operations and related costs. The tax amounts to one penny on every $10 purchase in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale Election tips

Many Scottsdale residents receive early ballots – more than 100,000. But in some recent elections, fewer than 30,000 were actually voted and returned. Avoid lines on Election Day and return your postage-paid early ballot.
