Beating By Mesa Police Sparks Outrage

A video that captured several Mesa Police officers beating a man, has sparked outrage. Now, three officers and a sergeant have been placed on administrative leave.

Mesa Police officers are seen in surveillance video taken on May 23 beating 33-year-old Robert “Junior” Johnson. Johnson is seen standing next to an elevator and talking on his phone at a Mesa, AZ, apartment complex. Police officers surround him and after speaking briefly the officers can be seen punching, kneeing, and pulling the man’s legs out from underneath him.

Johnson was charged with disorderly conduct. He was with a friend, who was reportedly trying to enter his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. Officers were responding to a domestic violence call.
