On June 4, 2018, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury bicycle collision near the intersection of North Country Club Road and East 4th Street involving 54-year-old Santiago Diaz Jr.

Tucson Fire treated Mr. Diaz on the scene and transported him to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives were able to determine that Mr. Diaz was riding eastbound across Country Club from 4th St. He crossed the southbound lanes of traffic and was attempting to head northbound (left turn) on Country Club. After passing the first northbound lane, he entered the curb lane and was struck by a northbound passenger vehicle (2003 Infinity G35).

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Mr. Diaz was not wearing a helmet.

On June 6, 2018, Mr. Diaz passed away at the hospital from injuries sustained during the collision.

Neither speed nor impairments appear to be factors in the collision. No citations or arrests have been issued at this time.
