Yuma Shooting Suspect Sought

On Thursday, June 7, 2018, at approximately 6:10 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the West Main Canal and Riverside Drive in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victims were fishing on the West Main Canal when they observed a grey Jeep Cherokee driving in their direction. The suspect in the Cherokee exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds in the victims’ direction. The suspect then fled the area in the vehicle towards the Donovan Estates area. Deputies located the vehicle a short time later in the 8400 block of Yavapai Lane.

The YCSO Special Response Team and the Criminal Investigation Bureau, with the assistance of the Yuma Police Department Special Enforcement Team, served a search warrant at the residence where the suspect was believed to be located.

One victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center and later flown to a Phoenix area hospital.

The suspect has been identified as Gatrick Salas-Fernandez, 24, of Yuma. He is described as 5 foot, 4 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Salas-Fernandez is wanted and is considered armed and dangerous.
