Tucson Police Investigate Murder, Suicide On East Side

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is actively investigating an apparent murder/suicide that occurred on Tucson’s East Side early Thursday.

On June 21, 2018, at 12:53 p.m., the Tucson Police Department received a 911 call about a possible shooting inside of a residence in the 10400 block of East Windstorm Drive. A neighbor made the call after a 10-year-old boy from the residence ran to her home for help. Officers from Operations Division East were dispatched and spoke with the child. The child told officers that his father shot his mother and possibly his brother inside of their residence.

Members of the Tucson Police SWAT Unit, Hostage Negotiations Unit and Bomb Unit responded to assist. Hostage negotiators attempted to contact the parents, but were not able to reach either of them. The TPD Bomb Unit deployed their robot, which is equipped with a camera. The robot was able to enter the home to see if anyone was inside. Once inside, the camera showed an adult male on the floor that appeared to be deceased. The camera also showed an injured adult female on the floor. It appeared the female was still alive, so members of the SWAT Unit entered the residence. SWAT medics immediately treated the female victim while additional SWAT officers searched the rest of the home. A teenage juvenile was then found deceased in a back bedroom. The female victim was transported to a local hospital with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Her injuries are listed as critical, but appear to be non-life-threatening at this time.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Homicide Unit and Domestic Violence Unit responded to continue the investigation. After conducting interviews and processing the scene, they were able to determine the adult male shot his wife and teenage stepson before turning the gun on himself. The 10-year-old son ran from the home and hid after his mother was shot and then ran to a neighbor’s home for help.

The adult male was identified as 49-year-old Donald Stanley. The juvenile victim was identified as 15-year-old Christian Garcia-Sanchez. Next of kin for both have been notified. The 10-year-old child was not injured and is currently with extended family while his mother is recovering.

As detectives continue the investigation, they are asking anyone with information to please call 88-CRIME.
