On Monday, the office of Senator John McCain released what has been described as a hyperbolic statement on President Trump’s comments on Russia. Unlike McCain, other Republicans offered critical but measured assessments of Trump’s treatment of Russian President Vladimir Putin during their joint press conference.
While the Senator’s statement was immediately hailed by Trump opponents, politicos and pundits could not help but question whether Senator McCain was capable of creating such a complex statement given his grave health condition.
In simplest terms, anybody capable of a 364 word quotation as well constructed as that one, is capable of conducting a short and simple media interview to let his constituents know how he is doing, and to offer them some reassurance that while he is not physically at work, he is still mentally engaged.
The Senator has not returned to the Hill since before last Christmas break.
McCain just passed the one year mark since he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The last public image of him was captured and shared on Twitter by his daughter Meghan in March.
@CQuerard Until I see a video of Sen John McCain sitting upright, typing on his iPhone with the current date of The New York Times clearly visible, I will not believe anything coming from his Twitter machine. John McCain’s tweets are fake. #faketweet https://t.co/rJLu7vZh7x

“In raising his voice on this issue…” – The media has mostly abandoned their jobs when it comes to covering #JohnMcCain and whoever is actually speaking for him. No follow ups, no real reporting, just rubber stamping the official word, no questions asked. Then endless retweets. pic.twitter.com/IsWOOVAYIt

No, #JohnMcCain didn't say 364 words about the #TrumpPutin press conference & the media retweeting this like he did is appalling. It's fair to say that whoever controls McCain's Twitter account seems really upset though. Same goes for whoever is ghost-writing his press releases. pic.twitter.com/YCaZ8QdX5B
