Man Sentenced For Trying to Smuggle Ammo, Guns To Taiwan

A Taiwanese man, Fu Sheng Yang, age 39, was sentenced to 33 months’ imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release after previously pleading guilty to one count of attempting to smuggle goods from the United States.

On June 20, 2017, Yang legally entered the United States. During the next two days, he purchased 10,000 rounds of ammunition and took possession of 40 upper receivers with the intention of illegally exporting these items from the United States to Taiwan. He also attempted to arrange for the purchase of an additional 100 firearms.

On June 22, 2017, Yang was stopped by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for speeding and was found in possession of the aforementioned ammunition and upper receivers.
