On Wednesday, investigators with the Homeland Security Investigation took Christopher Cangelosi into custody after he inappropriately contacted a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office detective, who he thought was a 14-year-old girl in a chat room for children between the ages of 13-16.
According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Cangelosi sent inappropriate pictures to the undercover detective’s online persona. He also asked the undercover detective’s persona to engage in sexual acts with him and the his friends. Cangelosi discussed taking the 14-year-old across state lines to California and New York. The conversation ended with Cangelosi expressing his intension to come to Arizona.
PCSO detectives worked to positively identify and locate the suspect. They learned he was a Brooklyn resident and HSI in New York was immediately contacted. HSI learned that Cangelosi had plead guilty in Kings County Criminal Court on an offense related to the sexual abuse of an autistic female that occurred in December 2017. They also uncovered numerous child exploitative images and videos on his computer.
Cangelosi is facing federal charges of Possession of Child Pornography. He may be facing additional charges in Arizona.
