Former Quartzsite Police Evidence Technician Stole $25K

Christy Conley, a former evidence technician with Quartzsite Police Department, who stole thousands of dollars of cash in impounded evidence, was sentenced to supervised probation and serve no less than 90 days in jail.

Conley pled guilty to one count of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices and one count of Tampering with Evidence. As part of the agreement, Conley will also be required to complete approximately 150 hours of community service.

In 2017, Conley stole monies impounded with the Quartzsite Police Department’s evidence safe, including approximately $13,000 belonging to a deceased citizen’s estate. In total, Conley took approximately $20,000 in cash. Conley then lit a fire inside the evidence room in the police station in an attempt to destroy evidence of her crimes.

Investigators say Conley also charged more than $4,000 on a work credit card. As part of her plea agreement, Conley will be required to pay back that money to Quartzsite Police Department.
