Gosar’s Mother Shocked By Attack Ad, “It’s Tough To See”

Bernadette Gosar, mother of 10 children, defended her son, Rep. Paul Gosar, after he was viciously attacked in a campaign ad by her other children. Mrs. Gosar said she was “shocked” by the attack ad for her son’s opponent featuring six of her children.

Mrs. Gosar appeared on KFYI’s James T. Harris show on Monday to discuss the ad her children David, Tim, Gaston, Joan, Jennifer, and Grace made for Paul’s Democratic opponent, David Brill. “If I may share with you,” Mrs. Gosar told Harris, “I am totally shocked. I would’ve never dreamed that this would be an outcome. It’s tough to see.”

Arizona politicos were almost as shocked as the Mrs. Gosar due to the fact that the ad will likely do little good for Brill. Paul secured the most votes of all congressional candidates in all of Arizona’s House primary races this year, and is expected to easily defeat Brill.

“I am a conservative and I know he is,” continued Mrs. Gosar. “I’ve been a conservative on my life. My parents both emigrated from southern France a long time ago; in the 1930’s. They embraced this country whole-heartedly because it was a place where if you wanted to do something – if you wanted to work – it was all up to you. The government wasn’t in your life all the time and my father really appreciated that and loved this country. And I’ll add one more thing; he served in the United States Army during the First World War and not as a citizen.”

Harris, who had to speak loudly for the elderly Mrs. Gosar, asked what she thought was of the diversity of opinion among her children, and how it came to be. She responded that she was “shocked” by it, but she “might have some ideas,” how it happened. “If you would’ve told me years ago, when the family was home, that this would happen I would not have believed you,” explained Mrs. Gosar.

When Harris asked Mrs. Gosar if her family could come together in a “kumbya moment” after the election, she replied with sadness in her voice, “That’s an awesome thought, but I don’t know if that’s possible now.”

“He’s a good man,” she said in closing, “and he’s doing his best to serve his constituents.”

Pete Gosar is widely viewed as a disgruntled failed gubernatorial candidate in the Gosar’s home state of Wyoming. Pete was the Democratic nominee in 2014 for Governor of Wyoming and also served as chair of the Wyoming Democratic Party.
