Flake Announces He Will Vote For Kavanaugh

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake has announced that he will vote in favor of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Flake, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was considered a key vote.

According to reports, Senator Chris Coons, a progressive who had counted on Flake’s “no” vote, wept when he learned the news of Flake’s intention.

During yesterday’s hearing, Flake asked no questions of Kavanaugh, which was perceived to signal his opposition.

On Wednesday, Flake delivered an emotional and rambling speech when he took to the Senate floor to apologize for the political attacks against Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh. Prior to his speech, Flake remained silent as the attacks increased and the accusations became increasingly sordid.

Democrats attempted to block a vote to confirm Kavanaugh using various tactics. An unapologetic Senator Lindsey Graham called the Democratic Party’s effort to destroy Kavanaugh one of the most despicable campaigns in the nation’s history.

Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her nearly 35 years ago. The claim she made has been refuted by all the people she says were present at the time. Blasey Ford offered no witnesses or evidence to back her claim.

Former President George W. Bush has been making telephone calls to Senators advocating in support for Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh is a former top aide in Bush’s administration. Bush has spoken to Flake, Susan Collins of Maine, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
