Smuggler Arrested, Drugs Seized By Nogales CBP Officers

An Arizona man, connected with a failed attempt to smuggle a combination of methamphetamine and heroin into the United States was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales on Thursday.

The 50-year-old man was referred for further inspection of his Ford SUV by CBP officers at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing. A CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent it was trained to detect within the vehicle’s roof. Officers removed several packages of drugs which were identified as nearly 91 pounds of methamphetamine, worth almost $272,000 as well as more than five pounds of heroin, with an estimated value almost $144,000.

Officers seized the drugs as well as the vehicle. The smuggler was arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
