Nurse arrested for allegedly raping helpless Hacienda woman

PHOENIX —  Nathan Sutherland, a a 36-year-old licensed practical nurse, has been arrested for the rape of a Hacienda Healthcare patient.

The rape was discovered when the incapacitated victim, a 29-year-old woman, gave birth to a healthy baby boy in December.

The victim had been at the facility in since she was three years old.

Sutherland has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse.

DNA samples were collected from male employees at the facility after the baby’s birth.

Hacienda CEO Bill Timmons resigned from his position after the woman gave birth. Two doctors  who provided care to the victim are also no longer employed at Hacienda.
