Marana Police Identify Suspect Killed In Officer Involved Shooting

The Marana Police Department has identified 24 year-old Juan Padilla, as the suspect killed is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday March 31, 2019.

At approximately 7:58 a.m., the Marana Police Department (MPD) received a 911 call from an adult female about an unknown problem occurring inside the residence. According to Marana Police, they were told that a male suspect inside the home was stabbing another male. They then received information that the male suspect was stabbing the female 911 caller as well.

When the MPD officer arrived at the residence at approximately 8:01 a.m., he found a male victim with obvious critical wounds in the front yard on the ground. The man indicated that two additional people were inside the residence, and screaming could be heard coming from within the house. The officer entered the residence and found Padilla on top of the female 911 caller, who had already sustained obvious critical wounds.

Padilla, according to MPD, ignored the officer’s commands to drop his knife, which was ignored. During the confrontation between the officer and Padilla, the officer discharged his duty handgun, striking Padilla.

Despite life-saving efforts by MPD officers and Northwest Fire District (NWFD) personnel, Padilla succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on-scene.

The patrol officer was not injured during this incident. NWFD transported the male victim and female victim to a local trauma hospital.

MPD detectives determined that Padilla lived at the residence in the 7400 block of W Crimson Ridge Drive. The female victim and male suspect were guests at the residence.

Anyone with information related to this officer-involved shooting is urged to call Marana PD (520-382-2000) or 88-Crime.
