BP Agents Nab Camo-Clad Smugglers In Custody, Guatemalan Man Awaits Extradition

TUCSON – A 25-year-old Guatemalan man, Mario Felipe-Perez, is in federal custody and awaiting extradition to Marion County, Oregon after he and 10 other drug smugglers were apprehended by Border Patrol agents working near Arivaca.

Felipe-Perez has an active warrant in Marion County for burglary, domestic violence assault, and contempt of court.

Border Patrol agents also seized the over 820 pounds of marijuana the illegal aliens were smuggling through the remote, mountainous area southeast of Arivaca on Wednesday afternoon.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents were alerted to a group wearing camouflage and carrying bundles of marijuana in the mountains west of Nogales. With the help of an Air and Marine Operations helicopter, agents located and arrested the smugglers.

The group included Felipe-Perez, a Honduran, and Mexican nationals, ranging in age from 15 to 38 years old, are facing federal immigration and drug smuggling charges.
