TUCSON – A 17-year old from San Luis, Arizona was caught smuggling fentanyl through the Port of San Luis Friday.
On Friday afternoon, the teen attempted to enter the U.S. through the pedestrian lanes, when officers referred him for further questioning. After a drug dog alerted to the crotch of the teen’s pants, a search led to the discovery of a single package of fentanyl pills.
According to CBP, the drugs weighed nearly a pound, worth more than $9,100.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested a Mexican national as well.
On Friday evening, CBP officers referred the 27-year-old San Luis, Sonora, Mexico, man for additional inspection of his Dodge sedan, as he attempted to enter the U.S. through the port. A drug dog detect drugs coming from the area of the vehicle’s transmission. Officers removed several packages of fentanyl from the location.
The fentanyl pills weighed nearly 4 pounds, worth more than an estimated value of nearly $40,000.
