WASHINGTON – Rep. David Schweikert was the sole member of the Arizona Republican caucus to join a handful of Republicans who supported a House resolution to condemn President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops out of northern Syria.
The resolution passed on Wednesday in a 354-60 vote. On Thursday, the White House announced that a ceasefire had been negotiated.
This is a great day for civilization. I am proud of the United States for sticking by me in following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. People have been trying to make this “Deal” for many years. Millions of lives will be saved. Congratulations to ALL!

This deal could NEVER have been made 3 days ago. There needed to be some “tough” love in order to get it done. Great for everybody. Proud of all!

Rep. Paul Gosar tweeted after the vote on Wednesday that the U.S. has “no business protecting Turkish borders or Syrian borders.”

Rep. Andy Biggs defended the president’s decision:
On Thursday, Rep. Debbie Lesko tweeted on the deal:
Pleased to learn President @realDonaldTrump has reached a deal with Turkey for a ceasefire in Syria to allow Kurdish forces to withdraw from the border areas. Thank you @VP and @SecPompeo for traveling to Turkey and getting this done.
