California Fisherman’s Body Recovered From Yuma Canal

The body of a California man, Woodley Mason, was recovered on Friday by Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) Search and Rescue on Friday.

According to YCSO, on Monday, October 28, 2019, at approximately 6:51 p.m., the Office received a report that Mr. Mason, age 54, had fallen into the Gila Gravity Canal near the Hidden Shores Village RV Park while he was fishing. YCSO personnel, along with Yuma Proving Ground Police and Fire Departments, responded to the area and attempted to locate Mr. Mason without luck.

Search efforts continued over the course of the next few days to include the YCSO Search and Rescue units on foot, in vehicles, and on jet skis; and the Sheriff’s Office and Yuma Police Department Dive Team members searching underwater.

On Friday, November 8, 2019, at approximately 9:49 a.m., YCSO Search and Rescue located Mr. Mason’s body in the Gila Gravity Canal in the area of Adair Park Road. Search and Rescue members, along with Sheriff’s Office Dive Team members, were able to recover Mr. Mason’s body from the canal.
