On Thursday, two of the largest newspaper companies in the country, New Media Investment Group, the parent company of GateHouse Media, and Gannett announced a merger. The deal was approved by Gannett and New Media shareholders
The new company will keep the Gannett name.
Gannett owns USA Today and more than 100 local newspapers, including The Arizona Republic and The Des Moines Register.
