Bodies Of 2 Children Recovered, Search On For Third In Tonto Basin Flooding Tragedy

On November 30, searches recovered the bodies of two of the children who were reportedly swept away in flooding in the Tonto Basin area.

On November 29, 2019 at approximately 4:11 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call of a vehicle stuck in Tonto Creek near the Bar X Crossing. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopters rescued one adult and four children who were stranded on an island. Another adult was rescued from the shore.

On November 30, 2019 at approximately 8:45 a.m., the body of the first of the two children was recovered. The second body was recovered at approximately 11:14 a.m.

The search operation continues for the third child reported missing children.

Multiple agencies are assisting to include: Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Tonto Basin, TriCity and Globe Fire Departments.
