Sahuarita Shoplifting Turns Into Strong Armed Robbery, Thieves Ram Police Car

A shoplifting incident at the Sahuarita WalMart turned violent on Sunday afternoon.

According to Sahuarita Police, on December 8, at approximately 3:46 p.m., officers responded to the Walmart located at 18680 S. Nogales Hwy regarding two shoplifters.

Prior to officer’s arrival the suspects fled the scene by forcing their way past WalMart Loss Prevention personnel therefore
committing Strong Armed Robbery.

Other responding officers found the suspect vehicle and began pursuing it. During the pursuit, which lasted several miles the suspect, rammed an SPD police vehicle.

According to police, the pursuit ended at Duval Mine and Rio Altar Rd. when the suspect crashed by veering off the road on its own. Both suspects did not have life threatening injuries but were sent to a local hospital for treatment.

No officers or members of the public were injured during the pursuit.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the collisions and Sahuarita Police detectives are investigating the Strong Armed Robbery.
