Tucson Man Kills Girlfriend, Dies After Standoff With Police

crime scene notice

TUCSON — Victor A. Parsons is dead after a standoff with Tucson Police officers on Sunday. Parsons had killed his girlfriend, 36-year-old Samantha A. Boyd, earlier in the day.

Tucson Police say officers responded to 201 East Yavapai Road approximately 2:30 p.m. for a call about aggravated assault.

The caller, Parsons, told police that he and his girlfriend had been assaulted and were injured in his apartment. When officers arrived, neighbors told officers that Parsons was walking around outside with a shotgun and yelling.

Officers contained the apartment building and began evacuating several apartments as a precautionary measure. Members of the Tucson Police SWAT Team and Tucson Police Hostage Negotiations Unit stood by as negotiators communicated with Parsons. Parsons told officers that he was armed and his girlfriend was injured. Negotiators maintained communication with him for several hours; however, he refused to exit the apartment unarmed.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Parsons exited the apartment with the shogun in hand. According to police, an 8-year veteran of the Tucson Police Department SWAT unit fired his weapon at Parsons striking him. Police attempted to render aid, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Office of Professional Standards is conducting a separate investigation as standard protocol all officer-involved shootings.
