Suspects In Custody After Firing On Border Patrol Agents Days After Anniversary Of Agent Terry’s Murder

2 FOUND IN TRUNK AFTER DRIVER FIRED SHOTS AT AGENTS

TUCSON – Just two days after the ninth anniversary of the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Border Patrol agents came under fire while trying to intercept human smugglers.

U.S. Border Patrol agents working the immigration checkpoint at mile marker 26 on Federal Route 15, 20 miles south of Casa Grande pursued a vehicle that failed to stop at the checkpoint at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Monday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, shots were fired at agents from the vehicle before it was stopped with assistance of other law enforcement partners on I-10 near Casa Grande.

The as yet unidentified driver and two individuals found inside the vehicle’s trunk were arrested.

None of the law enforcement officers involved discharged their firearms, and no injuries were reported.

Agent Terry was murdered during an encounter with a “rip crew” in a remote canyon north of Nogales, Arizona the night of Dec. 14, 2010.
