The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of pedestrian, 20-year-old Geoffrey Velez, that occurred on Wednesday morning. Traffic investigators have arrested 30-year-old Maurice Williams.
Williams has been charged with Manslaughter and Driving Under the Influence.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, on January 1, 2020, at about 6:15 a.m., deputies responded to La Cholla Blvd. just South of Fountains Avenue for a report of a collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, Mr. Velez, who had been in the roadway when he was struck by a passenger vehicle.
Life-saving efforts were made, but Mr. Velez was pronounced deceased on scene.
