Inmate Indicted For Killing Maricopa County Corrections Officer

Maricopa County – A Grand Jury has indicted Daniel Davitt for 2nd Degree Murder, in connection with the death of Maricopa County Corrections Officer Gene Lee. Officer Lee passed away from injuries sustained in an attack by Davitt, an inmate at the Lower Buckeye Jail.

Davitt was in custody pending charges involving the sexual assault of a child at the time of his attack on Officer Lee.

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone said Officer Lee, a 6 year veteran of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, was the victim of an unprovoked attack by Davitt, who choked and threw Officer Lee to the ground. Officer Lee was knocked down, hitting his head on the floor.
