Oklahoma man whose remains were eaten by mountain lions identified

Tucson – The Pima County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that the remains located at the Pima Canyon trailhead on December 31, 2019 have been identified as 66-year-old Steven Mark Brashear. The manner of his death has yet to be determined.

Mr. Brashear’s remains were partially eaten by mountain lions on the Tucson area hiking trail.

Daylan Thornton was identified as a person of interest by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation into the death of Mr. Brashear. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, on January 3, 2020, at about 8:00 p.m., deputies arrested the 21-year-old Thornton for Auto Theft. The vehicle involved in the theft belonged to Mr. Brashear, an Oklahoma man last seen near the Tucson Mall in early December.

Mr. Brashear was reported missing to Oro Valley Police in December 2019.
