TUCSON – A Tucson man, Jacob Frausto, was killed on March 6, 2020, after stand-off with Tucson Police who responded to a domestic violence call involving a gun.

According to Tucson Police, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex at 7730 E. Broadway Boulevard for a report of a domestic violence. When the arrived, the victim told them that she had just been in an argument with her ex-boyfriend/roommate, the 41-year-old Frausto, inside of their apartment.

The victim told officers that during the argument she attempted to leave with their young son, but Frausto pulled out a rifle and would not let them leave. The victim stated that Frausto was making suicidal statements and was pointing the rifle at himself.

Eventually Frausto let her and their son leave the apartment.

Tucson Police say that officers attempted to speak with Frausto, but he refused to leave the apartment. As a result, hostage negotiators responded and spoke with Frausto on the phone for several hours in an attempt to get him to exit his apartment peacefully.

According to Tucson Police, SWAT officers responded and assisted with evacuating residents from neighboring apartments.

While speaking with negotiators on the phone, Frausto fired numerous rounds from inside his apartment toward the outside, according to Tucson Police. During the incident, a Tucson Police SWAT Officer fired his gun and struck Frausto while he was inside of his apartment.

The Tucson Police Bomb Squad then sent a robot with a camera into the apartment. The robot sent video to officers outside. Officers were able to confirm that Frausto had been struck and was still alive.

SWAT officers and Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) personnel provided medical treatment. Frausto was taken to Banner University Medical Center where he died from his injuries shortly after arrival.

The Tucson Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards (OPS) is investigating the incident which is standard protocol in all officer-involved shootings.

According to Tucson Police, the officer involved in the shooting was Officer Timothy Anderson, a nearly 9-year-veteran of the Tucson Police Department and 6-year-veteran of the SWAT Team.
